Interstitial lung disease , most commonly referred to as (ILD), or often known as diffuse parenchymal lung disease (DPLD), is a group of lung disorders that causes progressive scarring of lung tissue or also generates and effect on the interstitium (the tissue and space around the alveoli (air sacs of the lungs). The disease occurs when an injury to the lungs triggers an abnormal healing response. Accordingly, the body starts generating the right amount of tissues which helps in repairing the damage, but on the other hand the repair process goes awry and the tissue around the air sacs (alveoli) tend to become scarred and thickened in interstitial lung disease making it more difficult for the oxygen to pass into the bloodstream.

Symptoms:

  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath when at rest

A pulmonary fibrosis usually occurs out of this prolonged ILD, but this is not always the case. No obvious cause can be identified as such for this Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a lung disease which is associated with typical findings both radiographic and pathologic .

ILD is not a singular disease, but also surrounds many different pathological processes. So accordingly the treatment varies for every single disease.

As soon as a specific occupational cause is found behind, the person should immediately start avoiding that environment. Similarly, If a drug cause is found/suspected the drug should be discontinued immediately.

Corticosteroids helps in treating many unknown or connective tissue-based causes . Some people look forward to to immunosuppressant treatment. And people with low oxygen levels are significantly recommended oxygen therapy

Pulmonary rehabilitation is considered to be very useful. Lung transplantation is an option left if the therapy is no longer helping out the patient in their recovery. Infective exacerbation can also be prevented through vaccinations.

Dr. Satya takes extensive care of his patients while discussing the illness, treating them. He believes that the first step should be of making them comfortable, rather them bombarding them with suggestions, medications, and treatment procedures. This is why he’s among the best pulmonologists currently operating in New Delhi , Narayana Super-Speciality Hospital.
